Whitemore\, the first tenants were two brothers\, Frederic and William Cummins\, who rented the building for their grocery store.  Later tenants included:  Southern Soda Works\, Continental Baking Powder Company\, Ford Flour Company\, and the Tennessee Wholesale Drug Company\, among others.  In 1913\, it housed the Bearden Buggy Company\, and a wooden elevator was added to the building to transport the buggies up and down.  In 1943\, it housed Acme Feed and Hatchery\, later known as Acme Farm Supply\, and sold “straw\, feed\, wire\, tools” and more.  The store closed down in September 1999 and remained vacant until 2013 when a restauranteur\, several business people and country music musician Alan Jackson leased the building to turn it into a restaurant/bar and music venue.  It now operates as Acme Feed & Seed and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1998. \nNote:  there is no designated parking for this tour.  Please utilize parking on any adjoining streets and garages.  Members should meet at the front of the building. \nHope to see you there! \n  \n  \n\n \nPowered by Eventbrite

Ample parking is available at or near the house. \nBrentwood Hall\, built circa 1910\, was the estate of prominent Nashville businessman and banker Rogers Caldwell who was often called “the J.P. Morgan of the South”. Caldwell was the son of another prominent Nashville son\, James Caldwell\, and grew up at the historic Longview mansion in Oak Hill. After the stock market crash of 1929\, Rogers Caldwell’s company went bankrupt\, leading to the scandalous failure of nearly 100 banks across the South in what was called “greatest financial disaster which Tennessee has ever experienced”. The state of Tennessee seized Caldwell’s estate in the aftermath. The property now operates under the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The grounds include Caldwell’s former mansion\, a renovated horse barn which now houses an agriculture and early Tennessee history museum\, a family cemetery\, 1800’s-era log cabins\, an arboretum and various state agency office buildings. Parking may also be available on side lots but will be limited due to high traffic for summer tourist season. Plan to arrive early to find parking. Members should meet in the lobby of 1305 Clinton Street to begin the tour at the Car Museum. \nOnce abandoned and overgrown with weeds\, Marathon Village is now a booming national tourist destination and home of the original Marathon Motor Car factory. The factory and surrounding buildings were built between circa 1881 and 1912 with differing styles of architecture. Several original Marathon Cars can be viewed inside the car museum. The village is an example of adaptive reuse of historic Nashville structures and houses various local businesses including an art gallery\, a coffee shop\, boutiques\, a brewery and taproom\, and the popular Antique Archaeology store.
